Leadership Roles

Dana has served as a leader in many ways:

• Enrolled member of the Haliwa-Saponi Indian tribe of N.C. and volunteer at tribal events.

• Mentor for students at Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA) and University of Maryland at College Park journalism school.

• Longtime IJA member, former board member, and former co-chair of its scholarship and fundraising committees.

• Former board member of the Maryland Media Board of Directors, which oversees the UMD’s student media publications.

• Former chair of the board of directors for the Broadcasters Child & Development Center. 

• Former deacon and current Sunday School teacher at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church.

• Stroke-and-turn judge for USA Swimming club.
